Democracy is ruled by the people. The people have a say in what the government does that effects their lives. Members of the legislatives body which are representatives, vote on certain things that the people agree on or want passed. (Kolar Miroslav)

A democratic state has to recognize the equality of the citizens and their freedoms under law such as freedom of speech and freedom of the press. A democratic state often has a system of checks and balances so the government can’t gain too much power.

Stalin took increasing power over the democratic party. Stalin removed people from the democratic party. Stalin opposed democracy before Lenin died, so he changed it so he had more power. (Max Eastman)
