4. In June of 1215 angry barons (nobles) insisted on (forced) a meeting with King John to demand that he sign a document that gave more rights to the church and nobles.

5. The Magna Carta was an agreement between King John, the nobles, and the church. King John’s Benefits: - got to keep his throne - got the nobles to re- pledge their loyalty to the king - church also continued to back King John Nobles and Church Benefits: - King promised to consult the nobles and the church before imposing special taxes - no free man could be jailed unless they received a trial before a judge and jury. This was the idea of Habeas Corpus. (latin for have body or produce the body)
