Circulatory System
2
Circulatory System works like roads in the body – Works with Respiratory System to deliver Oxygen and remove Carbon Dioxide – Works with Digestive System to deliver Nutrients – Works with Urinary to remove nitrogen waste – Works with Endocrine System to deliver hormones Works with all systems! Circulatory System = Transportation System
3
Pulmonary- “Of the lungs”, vessels going to and from the lungs. Veins – carry blood towards the heart Arteries- Carry blood away from the heart Capillaries- small blood vessels where O 2 is given to cells and CO 2 waste is picked up Types of Blood Vessels
4
Anatomy of Heart and Blood Vessels
5
Movement of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood
6
Heart Diagram: Flow of Blood 1. Pulmonary vein-takes oxygenated blood from lungs to left side of heart 2. Left Atrium 3. Left Ventricle- pumps blood out to the rest of body 4. Aorta –largest artery takes blood away from heart
7
5. Vena cava: largest vein, carries Deoxygenated blood back to the heart on the right side 6. Right Atrium 7. Right Ventricle- pumps blood to the lungs 8. Pulmonary artery-takes deoxygenated blood to lungs
8
Blood vessels are made up of different tissue types: Muscle tissue allows the blood vessels to dilate and constrict. Excess fat tissue can narrow the opening of the blood vessel and affect blood flow.
9
Platelets: Cells that binds to injury site to trap blood and begin to rebuild/repair the injury.
