Vita Preparation STRATEGY n Keep your Curriculum Vita (CV) up-to-Date and base your P&T vita on it n Prepare vita for your audience: the P & T Committee, and all the reviewers of your dossier n Use Dynamic not Static CV: change wording to highlight a match between your achievements and the promotion/tenure criteria n Prepare VITA early n Have a reviewer look for clarity and legibility

P&T Committee Instructions for Dossier Preparation D. General Summary Section Vita Outline: The vita outline is a brief summary of the candidate's professional career. It includes information about education, a listing of professional positions held, and a summary of major professional activities. Your VITA is a Summary Too! n OUTLINE! n A brief summary of your career. n Not a full curriculum vita. n Summarize major activities. n Eliminate less essential information. n Consider dividing up into three areas.

VITA: Professional Development Section n Publications –Published –Accepted –Submitted –Work in Progress n Grants received or in progress: –Include: Title, Agency, Start Date, End Date

VITA: P.D. Section, Cont. n Papers,Talks, Presentations n Refereeing and reviewing (books, journals, dossiers, grants) n Coursework taken n Workshops, seminars or professional conferences attended n Fellowships n Professional Memberships n Other?

VITA: P.D. Section, Cont. n Identify refereed works by an asterisk n Indicate co-authored or joint work and if first, second, or third, etc. author.

VITA: Service Section n Professional Service –Committee memberships (appointed or elected), special committee responsibilities, offices held in professional associations (state, regional and national) –Consultancies that applied professional expertise –Teaching outside normal responsibilities

VITA: n Include in Vita –Specific dates of the activity, e.g Taught a class the entire semester Taught a module, include what days Guest lecturer, include dates –URLs selectively, e.g. Publication only available online Your personal Web site if up-to-date

n Don’t Include in Vita –Irrelevant information is a liability. Exclude: –Age –Ethnic identity –Political affiliation –Religious preference –Hobbies –Marital status –Place of birth –Photographs –Height, weight, health

VITA: n Vita will NOT include: –Full description of your service or professional development –Explanation of the significance of the activity –Explanation of your responsibility
