Brussels Module Production Ê We have producted 57 R6 modules and 26 R5N modules 4 of which 67 grade A and 9 grade B and 7 outside specifications Ë We have experienced problems with the frame thickness 4 dry assembly (no glue) for each frame Ì Stopped production of modules due to hybrid delivery 4 some modules assembled with so-called ‘bad’ hybrids Í Continue with ~30 R5S modules for petal integration J.D’Hondt (for Brussels Group) CMS week – September 2004 (plots prepared by Bram Meerschaut) J.D’Hondt

Module precision R3 example X Y X < 30 m Y < 50 m < 10 mdeg CMS specifications on sensor positions sensor hybrid (no real problems with hybrid) sensor R6 and R5N illustration

R6 module precision : 57 modules Ê Good precision, sometimes influence is observed due to glue Ë We follow up the shifts and correct for them only 4% bad modules (will improve !!) RMS shift ~ 4-11 m and RMS angles ~ 3-5 mdeg Ì ~5 modules have crack in graphite (pin diameter ≈ graphite precision hole diameter) solved : we ordered pins with a smaller diameter (~3-4 m less) Grade A B Bad 79% 12%9% corrections estimated via dry assemblies corrections estimated via real assemblies Grade B = Grade A + 30%
4
R5N module precision : 26 modules Ê Similar as for R6 … improvement expected in the future Ë Bad modules are just outside of specifications A B Bad Grade 85% 7.5% Grade B = Grade A + 30%

Hard-ware adaptations for the assembly plates frame level capton level sensor level 900 m 700 m Ê The thickness of the carbon frames isn’t invariant 4 this and the capton level could induce vaccuum problems (if frame is too thick) Ë Thick frames have to be selected via dry assemblies double time !! Ì Aachen has adapted a R6, R5N and R5S plate … thanks !! 6 we ordered a new stronger (4-5x) vacuum pump 40 m old new

Summary Precision issues : Precision issues : Ê We follow the evolution of the residual shifts… better precision !! R6 and R5N modules : R6 and R5N modules : We reach good precision (RMS (x,y) ~ 3-5 m, RMS ~ 2-3 mdeg) with dry assemblies (no frame, no glue) with dry assemblies (no frame, no glue) Ë Slightly worse with frame and glue Ì In the future we think we can reach a level of ~2-4% bad modules Work skedule : ¶ Produce ~30 R5S modules for petal integration (over the next 3-4 weeks) (over the next 3-4 weeks) J.D’Hondt
