1
Service Types Potential service types for VoMPLS include: –MPLS core network - PSTN equivalent service –MPLS within the core and access network - PSTN equivalent service –Circuit emulation/leased line service –Low cost economy service Service types will drive explicit quantitative (voice) requirements. Objective is to map the service requirements onto LSP usage requirements.
2
Voice Service Requirements Quality of Service Factors: –voice encoding, transcoding, echo control, delay, jitter, packet loss, & timing accuracy. Grade of Service –call blocking, mass call events, overload conditions Quality factors affecting Session Management –misrouted sessions, dropped sessions, failure to maintain billing records, clipping, theft of service etc.
3
Example Deployment Scenarios Annex provides some example reference connections. Global reference connections considered. –Multiple MPLS islands interworking with the PSTN. Three key scenarios are considered: –core MPLS networks –extending MPLS to access –investigation of voice coding schemes.
4
Work Items Identified in the Draft Service Requirements –definition of service types, –definition of service requirements (delay, jitter etc) Definition of framework for operation of VoMPLS –single MPLS domain –multiple MPLS domains –interworking with PSTN/ATM network domains
5
Work Items Identified in the Draft Definition of LSP usage –requirements to achieve voice service requirements –predictable resource usage and GoS Call, bearer & device control protocol requirements –Megaco/MGCP & SDP –SIP –H.323 –Q.1901 –LDP, CR-LDP, RSVP-TE Specification of encapsulation mechanisms
