2 Historical Overview Resolutions: Adopted Positions of ASCCC What is the Meaning of a California Community College Degree? (ASCCC paper Fall 2005)

3 General Education Transfer Curriculum Resolution 4.02 S88 Resolved that ASCCC support the principle of a general education transfer curriculum, commend the work of ICAS seek to receive as much information as possible from local senates for the refinement and improvement of a general ed transfer curriculum.

4 General Education Transfer Curriculum Resolution 4.01 S90 Resolved that ASCCC adopt the General Education Transfer Curriculum.

5 General Education Transfer Curriculum Resolution 9.02 F92 Resolved that ASCCC encourage local senates to adopt a policy that allows students who have completed the full CSU GE requirements or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) requirements, and are eligible to be certified, to use either block of courses in lieu of the GE requirements for the AA or AS degrees.

7 Opposition to Associate Degrees based Solely on IGETC and CSU GE Breadth Resolution 13.02 F06 Resolved, That ASCCC oppose the use of IGETC and/or CSU GE Breadth as the sole basis for the area of emphasis (AoE) for the associate degree support interpretation of Title 5 that prohibits the use of IGETC and/or CSU GE Breadth as the sole basis for the AoE for the associate degree.

8 Degree Titles Resolution 9.02 F06 Eliminate the word “Transfer” in Degree Titles Stephanie Dumont, Golden West College, Associate Degree Ad Hoc Task Force Topic: Curriculum Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges work with local senates, local curriculum committees, and chief instructional officers (CIOs) to eliminate the use of the term “transfer” in program titles for the associate degree.

14 Fall 09 Resolution 4.02 Resolved, The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges work with the Chancellor’s Office to change Title 5 regulations such that colleges would be permitted to offer associate degrees in a major or area of emphasis designated for transfer to students who complete GE (IGETC or CSU GE) and 60 transferable semester units with a minimum of 18 semester units in a major or area of emphasis, and require the colleges that do so to refrain from requiring additional local requirements that are not included in the GE package or the major/area of emphasis.
