1 Battles of the American Revolution Lexington & Concord- April 1775- - Colonial victory. **Opening shots of Revolution.

2 Bunker Hill (outside Boston)- June 1775 - British take the Hill after heavy casualties. - Cont. Army forced to retreat because of lack of ammunition. ** Colonists prove they can stand up to British regulars.

3 Trenton (NJ)- Christmas 1776- - 2400 Colonial troops vs. 1000 Hessians - Washington crosses Delaware River at night. Catches Hessians sleeping. - Colonial Victory *** Gave Continental Army Confidence *** Many soldiers re-enlisted and stayed with army.

5 Saratoga (NY)- Oct 1777 –British troops come down from Canada to split Colonies in 2. –British troops are surrounded by Colonial Army commanded by Gen. Gates AND Gen. Benedict Arnold. –British are forced to surrender. ** Changes British Strategy, they move south. ** French decide to enter war on Colonial side.

7 Valley Forge (PA)- Winter 1777-1778 - Continental Camp site outside Philadelphia - British in town staying warm well fed. - Low point for Colonists, many die of starvation and exposure. *** Trained to become a regular professional army.

9 Yorktown (VA)- Oct. 1781 - Colonial army with the help of the French Navy and Army (finally), surrounded British Gen. Cornwallis. - British Army forced to surrender. *** Last MAJOR battle of war** ***YEA, WE WIN***

12 Treaty of Paris (1783) American Representatives- John Adams, Ben Franklin, John Jay. 1. America is an independent country- Boundaries are set. (Mississippi River) 2. Did not protect Indian Lands 3. Did not say when British troops had to leave West. 4. Loyalist paid what is owed; Colonies debt forgiven.
