DUCK CREEK EAST OF EASTERN AVENUE DAMAGED BY THE BIG RAIN ON JUNE 12, 2008 (7 inches in an hour, Q-75 year flow) PROJECT CONSTRUCTED BY CITY OF DAVINPORT, IOWA JUNE 30-July 2, 2008
2
LOCKED LOGS 20-30 ft long, 8-20 inches in diameter, maple tree, some limbs trimmed, angled downstream 30 to 45 degrees {relative to the bank}
3

Sawing large Locked Logs from the mother tree CONSTRUCTION-DUCK CR. E. OF EASTERN AVE. PIX BY DERRICK 6-30-08
7
Place appropriate sized Locked Logs on bed of stream. They should be angled downstream anywhere from 30 to 70 degrees (relative to the bank)
8
Looking DS. Typical Locked Log. Will provide hydraulic roughness & good aquatic habitat for the stream. CONSTRUCTION-DUCK CR. E. OF EASTERN AVE. PIX BY DERRICK 6-30-08
9
LOCKED LOG locked under LPSTP. Locked Log provides hydraulic roughness & aquatic habitat Install part of the Longitudinal Peaked Stone Toe Protection (LPSTP) with side slopes at the angle of repose

“Slit” Live Siltation for situations where the LPSTP is close to the toe of the bank & it is difficult to get the butt ends of the willow down into the Vadose (moist) zone

Bank Protection redundancy: Fully functioning both hydraulically & environmentally. Multiple protection redundancy. LPSTP provides a robust, adjustable, direct armor bank toe protection. Bendway Weirs move scour & thalweg away from attacked bank, with velocities reduced within weir field. Locked Logs & vegetation roughness reduces near-bank velocities. Roots strengthen bank & bind soil. Upper bank and riparian top bank plantings provide stability and a continuous riparian corridor.
