Your task for today is to find out what communism is and how it changed the lives of the Russian people. In 1917 there was a revolution ! The Tsar (King) was removed from power and after a butter power struggle, The Russian Empire became the communist, United Soviet States of Russia. (USSR)

You have looked at how the communist government controlled the media. They did this through a variety of ways, can you think of any? We are going to focus on one specific type of censorship. In Communist Russia there was only one newspaper, the government run ‘Pravda’. Today you are going to play the role of the editor of Pravda. You will need to decide which stories you can put in your newspaper.

Homework Another popular form of censorship in Communist Russia was editing books. If a book did not glorify the greatness of Communism or Russia they would often be rewritten to make sure that they carried the correct message. Your homework is to rewrite a story to make sure that it is acceptably communist. You could use any book or well known story for example: A nursery rhyme or fairytale. The plot of a film.
