3 Carbohydrates  Carbohydrates give us food energy  Carbohydrates give us strength  Easy for our body’s to break down  2 Types Simple (sugars) Simple (sugars) Complex (starches) Complex (starches)  Sources -Grains, pasta, fruits, veggies, candy, etc

4 Fats KKKKids need fat for brain and nervous system to develop TTTThey help growth in the brain, provides the blueprints of cells Sources: Foods like meats nut’s and butter

5 Protein  Aid in the building of antibodies  Is in almost every part of our body  We need protein for healthy growth Sources: meats, eggs, dairy, seeds, and nuts

6 Fiber  Is very important for our health  Flushes out bad fluids  Recommended amount per day is 25 to 40 grams  2 types: Water soluble (dissolves in water)  Insoluble (does not dissolve)  Sources: Dark vegetables, Citrus, whole wheat, and dates

7 Vitamins  One of the most essential nutrients needed  Two types: water-soluble vitamins and fat- soluble vitamins  Water soluble is taken out of body daily  Fat soluble is stored in fat tissues so don’t need it often.  Sources: eggs, milk and fruits and Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E and Vitamin K

8 Minerals  Are inorganic  Need certain amount for body to develop  Help growth of bones and teeth . Sources: Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Selenium, Sodium, and Zinc

9 Water  Water is over half our body weight  No living thing can survive without water  Helps with daily functioning of our body  Sources: fruits, vegetables and most liquids
