3 Emotions Trump Facts Research shows "facts don't convince people." The source of facts has a great deal to do with if we accept "facts" as facts.

5  We live in self-segregated communities.  Most people have deep anxiety about speaking to people with different views.  We were unable to create a fact sheet that felt non-partisan to participants. 8 Conversation Guidelines  Be Curious and Open to Learning  Show Respect and Suspend Judgment  Look for Common Ground  Be Authentic, & Welcome that from Others  Be Purposeful and to the Point  Own and Guide the Conversation

10 Living Room Conversations Goals  Build relationships with people that hold different views.  Increase trust in one another.  Build relationships so that collaborative problem solving is possible.  Find and share win/win - 100% and 80% solutions

11 Finding a co-host  Who do you respect that has a different perspective?  Who are your social media connections?  Who else is interested in the topic?

12  Citizens are sick of the status quo  Technology has given us more and more ways to empower citizens to lead and tap the wisdom of crowds, such as Wikipedia, YouTube, Open Source  If the process is simple and we trust people... Why now?
