Today’s objectives You will understand the various types of sponsorship and what it covers. You will begin to understand the benefits of sponsorship in sport, both locally and nationally.

And here are the answers… Adidas – David Beckham, New Zealand Rugby Premier League – Barclaycard McDonald’s – London 2012 Olympics Heineken – Rugby Nike – Tiger Woods Vodafone – Formula 1 F&C Investments – Birmingham City These are just some common choices, there are hundreds more!!

Who can be sponsored? IndividualsTiger Woods Sports Teams / Groups Aston Villa Governing BodiesAthletics Coaching & Achievement Schemes – McDonald’s football in the community Sporting events Rugby World Cup, 20/20 Cricket Grass roots individuals You or me?!!

Types of sponsorship Equipment required to take part: rackets, boots, clubs etc. Clothing Transport & travel – air, car, drivers etc. Money – to help with living costs Entry fees to competitions Food – they need to live!!

Now your turn… In pairs …… Task 1 Find out the main sponsors for – -A sportsperson of your choice who plays just as an individual AND - One who plays as part of a team

Task 2 Find one local team, or club, which is sponsored by a local company and one large local club which is sponsored by a major company.

Homework! Find out the sponsor of a local event or competition and also the main sponsors of at least one major international competition. (You may need to use the internet)
