RATIONALE OF THE BADGE SYSTEM The Badge System is based on a set of requirements so planned that the Scouts‘ interest will be developed in a natural way. The Badge System is a recognition of achievement or of meeting the requirements for advancement/achievement. The Badge System aims to produce boys of character, trained on his four duties. Duty to God, Duty to Country, Duty to Others, and Duty to Self.

PRINCIPLES OF THE BADGE SYSTEM Earning Merit Badges will enable scouts to determine the natural ability they have in specific fields of competencies. All along their Merit Badge work, scouts experience earning Merit Badges in special fields of endeavor among which they may decide to start a hobby that they will continue ail their life.

THE MERIT BADGE recognition given to a Scout for a job well done. cover a wide area of worthwhile interests and hobbies. offer an outlet for a Scout's natural curiosity and enthusiasm for what goes in the world about him. help the Scout to acquire added knowledge and skills; challenge him to learn by his own efforts; and help him to develop physical fitness, self- reliance, and ability to help other people at all times.

THE PURPOSE OF THE MERIT BADGE Encourage scouts to pursue worthwhile fields of interest such as scout crafts, hobbies, vocational fields, opportunity for personal growth, citizenship participation and preparation for later life.

THE PURPOSE OF THE MERIT BADGE Give scouts training beyond the basic requirements of scouting fundamentals that help develop a high honor, physical fitness, knowledge, self-reliance, teamwork and ability to help other people at all times.

STEPS IN EARNING A MERIT BADGE 1. Scout selects the Merit Badge. 2. Scout fills up the MB Application Form No 17. 3. Troop Leader/Outfit Advisor contacts the MB Counselor.

STEPS IN EARNING A MERIT BADGE 4. 1 st Meeting – MBC briefs the scout, tells what he needs to prepare to meet the requirements. 5. Scout does his homework. 6. 2 nd Meeting – scout brings all required materials and accomplished project for demonstration. MBC checks and examines the scout. Signs the MB Application.

STEPS IN EARNING A MERIT BADGE 7. TL/OA submits the MB Application form to the Local Council Office. 8. Local Council Office reviews the MB Application and issues MB Certificate. 9. Scout receives the MB certificate in a simple ceremony, and entitlement to wear MB on his uniform.
