Leveraging the UpSideDown21 Content Management System Tutorial #1
2
The Admin URL is: http://www.upsidedown21.org/1.1/admin/usd21_admin_ma in.php This URL is NOT public and is obscure for security reasons CMS Access Guidelines: You will need to request a username and password from USD21 staff before accessing. Do not share IT or your credentials with anyone for any reason. In order to leverage the CMS media player features you’ll likely want FTP access – contact the USD21 staff for an FTP account. FTP credentials, like CMS credentials, are not something you share.

We want to make sure we know what we are operating on – in this example, we are going to add to the Orlando website (orlandoicc.org) a sub-section under “Sunday Sermons” in the USD21 media “iframe.” Pointers: -The list of sermons on this page is an included “iframe” call on the “Sermons” page. -The “iframe” calls are constructed using several variables in the URL query string for their source. -If you don’t know what an “iframe” or what a “URL Query String” is, please google them!
6
We’ll want to know how to find the “secID” or “Section ID” – which is the number that identifies to the USD21 system a given section. In this example, from the http://orlandoicc.org/sermons/ page, right click on the “Sunday Sermons” link and select “copy link address.” and then cut and paste that somewhere so you can see the “secID” of that section…I used the address bar and saw that it was “secID=102” http://orlandoicc.org/sermons/
7
IFRAME Variables -Located in the “src” attribute URL if the iframe code. -“call=22” is the actual ID associated with this site in the USD21 system. This is for custom templates and is what calls the custom CMS link in the generated iframe from the USD21 system. -“secID=102” is the section ID assigned to the frame, in this case “Sunday Sermons” under the “The Orlando International Christian Church” section. -“width=480” is the width of the iFrame. - The other attributes can be further understood via some google’ing. (frameborder, hspace, scrolling, etc) This code can be added to a page and/or a post and will generate a list of sermons. Alternatively, one specific piece of media can be displayed by changing the “secID” to “mID=[some media id].”
8
The right column of this web page underneath the horizontal menu is entirely generated by the USD21 CMS system with “The iFrame Construct” we just examined. The “Orlando International Christian Church” section (“secID=102” from the variables defined in “The iframe Construct” slide prior) has two sub- sections (“Sunday Sermons” and “2009 Winter Workshops”) along with three items in the streaming media list. Our goal is to add another section to “Orlando International Christian Church” called “Leadership Training.”
9
At this point: We have already requested and received valid credentials and have are logged into the USD21 Admin interface. We know what page we want to affect and we’re aware of what section and section IDs are involved so we understand where we want to put our new “sub-section.” Now we’re ready to execute and then check the addition of a new sub-section.
11
…you need to select the correct section. This part is a little clumsy since there are so many sections to choose, but you can see we’ve drilled down to: /Streaming Media/Historical Media Archives/Sermons From The Discipling Movment Churches/Orlando International Christian Church This is in fact the section we want to add to – so now we need to click it and then put the “English name (required):” value which in our case is “Leadership Training” *Because USD21 is multi-lingual by design, every language can have it’s own name for sections. Generally, you don’t need to be concerned about that – those fields are for the translation team and you should leave them blank.
12
*NOTE: If you enter a number in the “What order is this category in it’s relative group?” box, the system will order the sections by this number that have the same parent section. It’s important to update all of them with such an ordered number otherwise the results will be unexpected. The default is to list all sibling sections/categories in alphabetical order. The USD21 system uses the terms “category” and “section” interchangably and they are in effect the same things in the context of this system.
14
This is what we’re looking for! We’ve added a new section to the USD21 CMS and it’s showing up where we’d like it to. “Wait, when we click on it, there’s nothing there!?” That’s because we need to add media to the section itself in the USD21 system, and that’s going to be in Tutorial #2.
