Apprenticeship IS post secondary education! Skilled tradespeople are in demand – in the next decade, 40% of new jobs will be in the skilled trades Many skilled tradespeople make six- figure incomes with excellent benefits!

What is Apprenticeship? on-the-job training program - includes learning from skilled journeypersons + college/union/online courses training provides access to well-paying jobs that demand a high level of skill, judgement and creativity

are paid while gaining work experience…wages increase with level of skill two to five years, to complete your training must meet the requirements set out by the province + pass your certification examination to become licensed

Pathways to Apprenticeship OYAP – Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program –allows high school students to learn about apprenticeship training and have an opportunity to begin apprenticeship training while they are still in high school

Employer-sponsored or Traditional Apprenticeship –Person has employment in the trade and is sponsored by a licensed journeyperson –Must register with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities –Will complete the educational component through a community college

Co-op Diploma Apprenticeship Program –combines a college diploma program and apprenticeship training leading to a Certificate of Qualification

Don’t have the high school subjects/skills you need? Pre-apprenticeship Training –helps individuals upgrade and develop the job skills which can lead to an apprenticeship –Private or Employment Ontario options Trade Fundamentals college programs
