5 Birdfoot’s Grampa p. 33  During the first reading use at least three of your reading strategies.  During the second reading they should write down what is the main idea, what’s happening?  During the third reading who is the hero? How does the poet tell us? Students will then share their answers to both questions in small groups followed by the whole class.

6 Class Discussion  How does the speaker view the old man’s actions?  What are some different views of heroism suggested by this poem?  How is this different description then the texts we’ve read in the past?

7 Exit Ticket  How did Birdfoot’s Grampa impact the author?  Did it have any impact on you?

8 Homework  Enjoy your weekend!  Next week we will finish up our Type 3 and begin looking at more poetry.
