Module 8: Post-Construction Phase Post-Construction Phase BMP Monitoring BMP Maintenance Temporary BMP Removal After Stabilization BMP Reporting and Record Keeping NOT Submittal
2
Learning Objectives n Identify activities occurring after completion of construction n Identify maintenance responsibilities n Identify record keeping requirements
3
Post-Construction BMP Maintenance n MDT responsibility (primary) n Contractor responsibility (very limited) n Regulatory Agency responsibility (compliance)
4
BMP Monitoring n Water quality monitoring (can occur under special circumstances) n Hydraulic evaluation (required to ensure performance) n Timeframe Weekly Prior to predicted storm event Soon after storm event (0.5 inches)
5
Water Quality Monitoring n Only under special circumstances n Urban setting n Influent and effluent concentration monitoring n Treatment BMPs n In mine waste areas n When contaminated soils are present
6
Hydraulic Evaluation n Evaluate field performance of BMPs n Determine if BMP can sustain additional storm events n Evaluate downstream areas for impact
7
BMP Maintenance n Frequent and periodic cleanout of accumulated sediment n Replacement of deteriorated BMP materials
8
BMP Maintenance (cont.) n Access to BMPs needs to be maintained n Wintertime maintenance required
9
BMP Reporting and Record Keeping n Form submitted to MDT Environmental Services Bureau n MDT will create a database
10
Temporary BMP Removal After Stabilization
11
Notice of Termination (NOT) n NOT form located in Appendix G of the Reference Manual n NOT form requires signature certifying that “final stabilization” has been achieved n NOT submitted to DEQ
12
Erosion and Sediment Control Post-Construction Phase Tools n Checklists are provided in BMP Manual

18
Conclusions n Monitoring of BMPs by MDT is required n Maintenance of BMPs by MDT is required n Record keeping is required n After final stabilization has been achieved, a Notice of Termination (NOT) is submitted to DEQ
