unit 24 Project Proposal
2
Description of the existing situation Describe the problems, needs, phenomena or processes involved without reaching conclusion or commenting. For example: a system which helps blind people navigate their way during the day : – we have to describe how blind people today move from one place to another
3
Searching for similar products Search for similar systems, products or any research done by other people In depth research includes: – internet –professional experts –personal interviews –checking and learning similar systems
4
Searching for similar products For example: which kind of tech systems exist today in order to help blind people move from one place to another? How do they work? To what extent are they used? What are their advantages and disadvantages?
5
Description of the problems For example: blind people can only move around a closed area they are used to. Any change in this area could be problematic and traumatic. The meaning of it is, the inability to move freely from one place to another, difficulties in finding a new job, low self confidence, being dependent on closed environment.
6
Description of our main idea To point out the uniqueness of our proposed system compared to similar existing products (if there are any similar products) For example: development of a system to enable a blind person to navigate within an area he is not used to. A blind person will not need help from other people. Any object in his way will be scanned and alerted.
7
Description of the problems To point out the weakness and problems regarding the product or processes as they exist today. Relate to the following points: –High expenses –Too much personnel –Time vs Production (output) –The process is too complicated
8
Our main idea All the messages of alert will be voiced in order to navigate and guide the blind people from one location to another
9
Initial literature review The aim of the literature review is to create a data base of knowledge and research needed for developing the project. Each subject in the literature review has to be relevant to the main idea of our project.
10
Relevant subjects Regarding blind people project, the following subjects could be researched : –What is blindness? –The blind people in the world and Israel – Self confidence and the ability to be independent –Similar products –GPS and cellular technology
11
Relevant subjects Data base of maps GPS and its protocol Wireless communication Hi – Fi technology Serial communication
12
Relating to STS STS – Science - Technology – Social Science - to present the scientific research to be done. For example, we will research the GPS principle including its mathematical and physical functions
13
Relating to STS Technology – to present the technological developments which will be researched and implemented. To present the system’s block diagram including inputs and outputs, as well as, a programmed flow chart
14
Relating to STS Social – to point out the link between the project and society. Blind people example: –the feeling of belonging to society –The ability to function and work Independently –changing the stigma of being dependent on somebody else
15
Team work division Divide the sub-subjects between the team members in order to know the work part of each member and his function. Also, each member has to know the subjects that he has to write in the literature review.
16
Project Schedule For example - : –Choosing a subject for the project –Preparing the project proposal –Literature review –Research and development –Implementation –Editing the book
17
Bibliography List of sources based on the literature review. the sources have to be written according to the accepted written rules.
