The CNA’s role Know how much help each resident needs with ADLs (This assessment is done by the licensed nurse and rehab staff) Encourage –participation in ADLs –ambulation according to the care plan –movement of legs and feet if wheelchair bound Assist immobile residents –frequent position changes –protective padding for bony areas –keep skin clean and dry October 2013 Health in motion

Tips for encouraging movement Resist the temptation to do everything for the resident Allow residents to use their own muscles when –reaching for items –repositioning –bathing –dressing Use it or lose it is good advice!
