A centre of expertise in digital information managementwww.ukoln.ac.uk 4 This Year’s Event The programme and format has been informed by: The Programme Committee (Brian Kelly, Diane McDonald, James Currall, Kriss Fearon, Duncan Smeed and Claire Rogers) Feedback from previous workshops Discussions on mailing lists This year we will: Provide a number of plenary speakers who will provide a vision or reflect on institutional activities Provide additional workshop sessions in which participants make active contributions Introduce a number of new developments: A panel session Debates Vendor presentations Opportunities for BoFs Briefing Sessions

A centre of expertise in digital information managementwww.ukoln.ac.uk 5 The Pervasive Web The Pervasive Web is increasingly: Pervasive in everything we do: Teaching Research Administration Social & personal Pervasive across all groups: IT Services Library MIS / Admin Academic depts Student activities Pervasive everywhere: PC Clusters Offices Halls of residence Cybercafes Mobile devices Wireless devices This can lead to interesting challenges / conflicts as many different groups will want a piece of the action

A centre of expertise in digital information managementwww.ukoln.ac.uk 6 Addressing These Challenges The Institutional Web Management Workshop series seek to address these challenges: Provide a forum for various groups: managers and techies, service (IT Services, Library, MIS, AVS) and academic departments, HE and FE, institutions and national bodies, teaching and research interests, etc. in order to: get together and talk to each other discover each others interests & concerns learn from each other Mixing people from different sectors, organisations, departments and backgrounds is not without difficulties! To address this please explain terminology and acronyms - a glossary is in your delegate pack

A centre of expertise in digital information managementwww.ukoln.ac.uk 7 The Format How do we provide a forum for dialogue: The Parallel Sessions Aim to provide an opportunity for delegates to actively participate through hands-on work, discussions, group exercises, etc. Discussion Groups Opportunity for (brief) free-ranging discussions on one of several topics Follow-up Activities Report on main issues from the discussion groups Materials and reports from parallel sessions to be made available on Web site (if available) Opportunity for follow-up activities: Further events Online activities etc.
