Graphing Quadratic Inequalities Page 5 Solve the following quadratic inequalities by graphing: Steps: 1.Solve for y (get y alone) 2.Type equation on calculator under y= 3.Copy chart down onto paper 4.Plot points and parabola with a smooth curve (remember, this is an inequality, the curve may be dotted or solid depending on the inequality) 5.Test a point in the original equation. If it works, shade toward the point. If it doesn’t work, shade away from the point. #1: xy1y1 -59 -44 -31 -20 1 04 19 Now that y is alone, type it into y= and copy down chart: Notice the symmetry in the y column. Look for that when trying to write down the table! Now plot the points and ask yourself if the parabola is drawn with a solid or dotted line. Solid line! Finally, test a point to determine where to shade. Usually test (0,0). (0,0): 0 4 - TRUE Shade toward (0,0)
