2 Personal life Edwards was born on 10th May in 1966, London At present he is living in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne Lives with his wife Alison and two sons, Nathan and Sam

3 Education He attended West Buckland School When he left school he received top award for sporting and academic excellence Edwards now has a sports hall named after him: The Jonathan Edwards Sports Centre He studied in Durham University, where he got a degree in physics

4 Career 1 In his breakthrough year 1995 he produced astonishing jump,18.43 m, but the leap was wind assisted and did not count The same year at the World Championships he broke the world record twice. On his first jump, he became the first man to legally pass the 18-metre barrier (18.16 m). That record lasted for about 20 minutes and then he jumped 18.29 meters Due to his good results in WC he was chosen BBC's Sports Personality of the Year

5 Career 2 In 2000 when he won the gold medal at the Summer Olympic Games he was awarded The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire shortly afterwards At one point in 2002, Edwards held all the gold medals for the "four majors" (Olympic Games, World Championships, Commonwealth Games & European Championships) He retired in 2003 as Great Britain's most successful medal winning athlete

6 Post-athletics career Edwards pursued a media career as a television presenter mainly working for the BBC as a sports commentator and on programmes such as Songs of Praise In 2004 Edwards joined with Paula Radcliffe on an Olympic Special “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?.” The pair raised £64,000 for charity, half of that sum going to the British Olympic Association and a quarter of the sum going to Asthma UK He is a member of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games, representing athletes in the organisation of the 2012 Summer Olympics.

7 Achievements Triple jump – 18.29m (WR), 100m - 10.48s Long jump – 7.41m In 2006 he got two honorary doctorates

9 Religious beliefs Edwards refused to compete on Sundays due to his Christian beliefs In 1993 he changed his mind and competed on Sunday deciding that god gave him his talent in order for him to compete in athletics. In 2007 he lost his faith in God on unknown reasons. He told that he is having difficult times and does not want to comment it.
