4 Literary Element Point of view Point of view The standpoint from which a story is told. In a story with first-person point of view, the narrator is a character in the story and uses the words I and me; with third-person point of view, the narrator is someone who stands outside the story and describes the characters and action. Third-person omniscient, or all-knowing point of view, means that the narrator knows everything about the characters and events and may reveal details that the characters themselves could not reveal.
