Macedonia We don’t have enough information from the older generation from Macedonia to give a good conclusion. We tried to give a good summary of the older generation of Macedonia. In Macedonia the use of media is changed a lot. 5 years ago, the people in Macedonia watched a lot of television, because they didn’t have a computer. 2 years ago the computers were coming in their normally households. They don’t watch as much television as they used to, but at the time they spend a lot more time on the computer.

How has your radio use changed over the last five years? It getting better every day...you know about the songs that we listen to...and the frequency it's better. In Macedonia we have a lot of magazines and newspapers, but that magazines it not just Macedonians, heir we have Serbian, German and so on and so on! Gordana Lazareska How has your internet use changed over the last five years? I have internet at home 1 year. And for that one year everything has changed. First of all is not so boring because all the time I communicate with other peoples and my friends. I learned a lot of new things, I have my own profiles. I have information from all over the world. And a lot of other things. How has your radio use changed over the last five years? Well, I listen radio but not so often. Now I listen radio on my computer- Online. How has your television use changed over the last five years? I love to watch television but unfortunately now I don’t have much time to watch television. Before 5 years all day I was watching television but now is different because I have other things to do. How has your newspaper/magazine use changed over the last five years? I like and I read it but not so often, I don’t buy it, if I see them in front of me, then I will go to see them.

11. The Netherlands Rosjalie Jansen How has your internet use changed over the last five years? Five years ago people told me about msn. Msn is a program to chat with friends. At school we make projects and I used internet to search for information. A example is a project about Australia. I search information about the country and the animals there. That is very useful. A year later I go to high school. Since than I used internet more for school because we make more homework. I also heard about almere4you and hyves. I began used it. Hyves is a site where you can drop messages at friends and make your own profile. On your own profile you can tell about your hobby’s, drop photo’s and a lot more. Almere4you is almost the same, but for the people in Almere. Now I use internet a lot more. After school I always use internet. I look at sites about fashion, chat with friends (msn) and use hyves/almere4you. I also use it for school a lot. At the moment I listen to the radio every morning when I eat my breakfast. Than I especially listen to the news. After school I listen to music on the radio. When I sit in a car the radio be on. So now I listen a lot more to the radio than five years ago. I think that my use changed a little by little. How has your television use changed over the last five years? Five years ago I didn’t watch television a lot, because my parents have forbidden me to watch too much television. They said that it was bad to look so much television. In the evening I watched television and sometimes after school (when my parents weren't home). Now I always watch television after school and in the evening. I really like soaps and music programs. In the past I didn’t watch music programs a lot. So that changed. I watch music programs like MTF and TMF. I like the soap ‘goeden tijden slechte tijden’ (good times bad times) and the soap McLeod's Daughters (an Australian soap). How has your newspaper/magazine use changed over the last five years? Five years ago I read magazines like Donald Duck (cartoon). Now I read the newspaper and magazines about fashion and Celebes. I also read strips. 12. Lesley Schulze How has your internet use changed over the last five years? My internet use has changed a little bit. 5 years ago I was in the last class of primary school. In that class I used internet for ICQ (something like MSN) to communicate with friends after school and I used internet for school projects. I search for information on internet for the projects. I use internet more than study books because in school there are always computers with internet and also at home. When you have to borrow study books it cost much time. When I was in the first class of secondary school I used internet for MSN and school projects, later I also used internet for Hyves. At the moment I also use internet for fashion sites and shops. This is everything I do with internet. How has your radio use changed over the last five years? My entire live I've listened to the radio. I only listen to the radio if we drive in the car, then I listen with my parents and sister to music. Every morning I also listen to the radio and then I listen to the radio because I want to hear the news. How has your television use changed over the last five years? 5 years ago I watched most of all kids programs and a Dutch soap, named ‘Goede tijden slechte tijden’ in English it is ‘Good times bad times’. The kids programs that I watched were ‘Pokemon’ and ‘Totally spice’. ‘Pokemon’ was a program that animals have a battle to each other and ‘Totally spice’ is going about girls who are super heroes and they are going to save the world. At the moment I don’t watch kids programs anymore but I still watch ‘Goede tijden slechte tijden’. Music programs, ‘Holland next topmodel’ and America’s next topmodel are programs I've watch since the last 3 years. I like to watch programs about fashion because I’m interesting about fashion. How has your newspaper/magazine use changed over the last five years? We get the newspaper every morning and we always have. I never had a subscription on magazines. But I always buy them in the supermarket. 5 years ago the magazines were for children and it were comic books. But now my taste is grown up. I read fashion magazines and al that kind of stuff

13. The difference and the similarity between.. … the older generation and the younger generation of the Netherlands: The older and younger generation spend both much time on the computer. The younger generation use more communication sites on the internet than the older generation. The older generation use internet more for work, because they work the whole day. The younger generation spend a lot of time on school. So they don’t use the computer all day long. The amount of time that the generations watch television is about the same. But the older generation watch more programs like the news. The younger generation watch more soaps and reality programs on the television. This is the same at radio and magazines. The older generation listen more news and the younger generation more music. The older generation read more newspapers and the younger generation read more magazines about fashion and stuff. So the time they spend is about the same, but what they read, watch and listen is different. … the younger generation of Macedonia and the younger generation of the Netherlands: Five years ago they almost had no internet in macedonia while in the Netherlands they had almost in every household internet. So in that time the internet use was very different. At the moment it is about the same, because almost every household in Macedonia have internet. What they do on internet is about the same. People in the Netherlands and in Macedonia use much communication sites on internet. In the Netherlands they use mainly hyves. We don’t know what kind of sites they use in Macedonia, but we think they don’t yse hyves as communication site. We think we watch more television than they do in Macedonia, but we are not sure about it. In Macedonia they don’t listen so often to the radio, only when they are on the computer. When they listen to the radio, they listen to music. That’s the same in The Netherlands. We don’t know much about what they read.
