Medical Tools &Medicines Didn’t wash hands or sterilize instruments(amputation knives, scissors etc etc) Anesthetics- alcohol or a good punch used to be knocked out Medicines- made of plants i.e. ginseng and May apple

Medical Practice # 1- Bleeding Believed in bodily tensions Used leeches or cut open a vein to bleed out Thought this helped ; made it worse

Medical Practice #2-Amputation Musket balls/bayonets Used amputation knife Cut skin then bone 35% survived
