3. Objectives:  The students will be able to plan and pre-write a comparison-contrast essay.  The students will be able to draft an essay using their pre-writes.

4. Focus Lesson: Organizing…  Certain points of comparison or contrast are more compelling than others to pursue in an essay. Choose a point of comparison and one of contrast and draft a thesis statement. Examples:  Both people, Malcolm X and _____ fought for civil rights.  While Malcolm X fought for personal reasons, Rosa Parks did so for _______ reasons.  Essay outline form.
