2 Appraisers invited to attend session on reviewing last year’s PDP and guiding you through this process. Email sent to all staff to support the review process Thurs 24 th Sept Appraiser surgery and all teachers emailed Review 2014/15 PDP Create a new PDP Submit everything New PDP All staff given new hard copy of the 2015/16 PDP in pigeon holes Monday 28 th September Mid-Sept to 9 th October Fri 9th October (INSET Day) Fri 30th October (Mon 2nd Nov) All teaching staff have training on completing the 2015-2016 PDP (supported by the Appraisers) Final deadline for the completion and submission of the 2014-2015 Review and the new PDP, to include 3 new objectives Suggested window to review last year’s objectives, complete both audits – initialled by appraiser and appraisee

5 Objectives should reflect development areas as identified in the standards audit, career aspirations and should be relevant to current/aspirational pay point Objectives should reflect, where possible and appropriate, the key development priorities for their faculty or area of responsibility (eg. Year Leader, G&T co-ordinator) The Appraiser supports the Appraisee in creating an appropriate Professional Development Plan, to include 3 objectives

6 TPAT trends Turning ‘– to met’ or ‘met to +’ on your standards audit Looking at the descriptors for your current and aspirational pay point Thinking about your career path Do you have a TLR? Look at your leadership audit. Where are the development areas? What are our whole school and your faculty development priorities?

7 How do I come up with effective objectives that help me to focus on where I want to be? How can I come up with strategic objectives that support my ‘area’ and the school to move in the right direction? (good to outstanding agenda)

8 I have all ‘GOOD’ on my TPAT I am auditing at p6 but want to move up to p7 next year I need to start turning my ‘met’ to ‘+’ I need to make sure I am demonstrating elements of outstanding teaching (as part of my strategies?) and my success criteria should reflect the p7-9 descriptors

9 A statement of a specific outcome that you wish to achieve. An objective is measurable. It is written as a specific end result or outcome that contributes to your own development and the development of the school as a whole. It’s measurability should be evident either within the wording of the objective itself or certainly through the success criteria. Year 11w1 complete their GCSE course having made progress in line with and exceeding school expectations.

10 The things you intend to do to ensure that you are successful in meeting your objective. Strategies are tasks, activities, possibly training, pieces of work. Further strategies can be added at the mid-year review. Organise and run a Y11 extra-curricular revision club, to include an evaluative student survey. Explore different ways of encouraging independent study eg. Twitter, upside-down learning technique. Re-do extended literary text controlled assessment with target students

The appropriateness and fairness of the measures need to be considered carefully, in line with current & aspirational pay point. 80% of students will make 3 levels of progress (targets suggest 70%) At least half of those students will make 4 levels of progress (targets suggest 30%) Approach to Learning for students will remain, on average, above 3.7 throughout the year Student survey results show that extra revision sessions were helpful in raising student motivation and confidence and there is a positive correlation between attendees and progress made. Students who were at or below target attended at least 80% of revision sessions.

Development of personal goals or moving towards realising career aspirations Development of TLR post, leading a group of students or staff members. Leading a project or initiative ALL link to skills/levels audits and can relate to key development priorities

19 Read the case study and write an objective (within your given ‘area’) and some hypothetical ideas for strategies and criteria. Please write any further questions in the box provided so I can send out FAQ’s! Do I know the difference between an objective, a strategy and criteria? Can I identify appropriate objectives for an individual? Will I be able to support other colleagues to understand what a good, appropriate objective overview looks like?
