2 How to Create a Caring Community? Building Relationships Building Relationships 1. Teacher-Child – To build an effective relationship here, you need to get to know your students. One of the ways to do this is to listen to your students talk with each other, what are their interests, and share some of your own interests outside of school. 1. Peer-Peer – a child who is aggressive towards other children may just want attention because they are lonely and don’t know how to relate to others. 4 Mutual Respect What kinds of things gets teacher’s respect in the classroom? – Work with a partner and come up with a list of 10 ways a teacher gets respect from their students. We will then compare with the other groups to see if there are any links? – On this list as well, at least one of the ways should include how to get respect from kids even though they are all different than you. 7 Positive Expectations Whatever your expectations of the room are, that is where the level of your student’s performance will go to.
