Superhuman: people have powers Supernatural: the other things happening in the world What could we add to make this definition more specific?
4
Divine Intervention: When someone helps someone one when they’re having trouble. What could we add to make this definition more specific?
5
Theme: the moral of the story Here’s a difficult one: Can anyone guess what the problem with this definition is?
6
What is the difference between superhuman & supernatural? Superhuman – This is a person with abilities that other humans don’t have Batman, X-men characters, Achilles Supernatural – This is not a human. Spirits, ghosts, witches monsters, etc
7
Divine Intervention – Divine intervention is when the hero receives help from a god or another supernatural force. (This happens often in epics) Ex: Athena urges Achilles not to fight Agamemnon, Gandalf helps Frodo escape the dragon.

The Epic Hero – “The epic hero is the central character of the epic. This character is a larger-than-life figure, typically of noble or semi-divine birth, who pits his courage, skill, and virtue against opposing, often evil forces.” In the early English epic Beowulf, for example, the hero Beowulf is a young warrior of high standing who battles a brutal and bloodthirsty monster.” – Characteristics of an epic hero tell us a lot about what the culture values. – Epic heroes are superhuman. ~ Create an Epic Hero Collage Use Powerpoint or Glogster Include: – Characteristics such as honesty, courage, etc – Strengths – Weaknesses Upload to Moodle

Example EQ Response from Block 1 “In the long run, yes, I do think that good will always overcome evil, but evil always has its time when it overcomes good. For example, the Holocaust, millions of people died, and Hitler got away with it for a long time, but in the end he died, his country crumbled, the Nazi Party was completely obliterated in Germany. Some of the Nazi leaders that fled to South America were eventually hunted down and punished for their crimes. So in the long run good won, but evil still had its time.”

Example EQ Response from Block 4 “Yes, I do believe good will always overcome evil even when pushed to the point to modulate sides. I come to this thought because everyone is generally good and no one really wants to suffer for the consequences of their actions. Also, anytime you see a superhero in a movie that modulates from good to evil, he is doing it so that he can save someone, but in the end he returned to the good side and wins. So I've concluded that good will always overcome evil.”
