DESCRIPTION OF BIOME The tundra is a treeless biome in areas with cold climates. They have a short growing season generally lasting 50 to 60 days, when the sun shines 24 hours a day.

PRECIPITATION AND TEMPERATURE

MAP

FOOD WEB

CARIBOU Scientific Name: Rangifer Tarandus Mass: 350 – 400 lbs (Adult, Male); 180-200Ibs (Adult, Female) Height: 2.8 – 4.9 ft. (Adult, At Shoulder)

DIAMOND-LEAF WILLOW Has soft twigs They are skinny, and can bend easily The leaves are narrow, and grow alternately on the branch Some leaves have serrated edges Can also reduce fever and relieve pain

DAMAGE AND SOLUTIONS CONCERNS The biggest concern for the Tundra is Global Warming. Scientists believe that Global Warming will eliminate artic regions. Melting of the permafrost as a result of global warming could radically change the landscape and what species are able to live there SOLUTIONS Switch to alternative energy uses to minimize human-made global warming. Establish protected areas and park reserves to restrict human influence. Limit road construction, mining activities, and the building of pipelines in tundra habitat. Limit tourism and respect local cultures.
