8 Tools to Help Search Engines Search engines are computer programs that retrieve and report specified data from their database(s). They use combinations of keywords to retrieve the information. Meta-Search Engines Seach engines that search search engines Directories Directories are categorized listings of topics most frequently searched on the Internet such as News, Weather, Entertainment, Sports, etc. Subject Guides Subject guides are lists of resources also organized by catagories but usually more focused and created by someone with knowledge in the area.
