About The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is the largest art museum in the western United States. It attracts nearly a million visitors annually. It holds more than 120,000 works spanning the history of art from ancient times to the present. In addition to art exhibits, the museum features film and concert series.

History The Los Angeles County Museum of Art was established as a museum in 1961. In 1965 the museum moved to a new Wilshire Boulevard complex as an independent, art-focused institution, the largest new museum to be built in the United States after the National Gallery of Art.

Exhibitions The Los Angeles County Museum of Art staged its first exhibition by contemporary black artists in 1971, featuring Charles Wilbert White, Timothy Washington and David Hammons, then little known.[24] The museum's best- attended show ever was "Treasures of Tutankhamun," which drew 1.2 million during four months in 1978.

Reflection Overall, researching about LACMA was not only a pleasure, but it helped me gain a new experience in the spectacular and amazing aspects of the art world. This isn’t just one of the major art museums in the state, but in the nation. LACMA was an eye opener for me and I’m considering the idea of actually going. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art is an amazing place to see with hundreds of thousands of beautiful and elegant artworks, ranging from more than fifty years! I’d definitely recommend this museum to anyone with a passion for art and history. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles_County_Museum_of_Art
