Training Open House Saturday April 9, 2011 12:30–3:30 PM or Sunday April 17, 2011 12:30–3:30 PM Western Family YMCA 2600 Kirkwood Highway, Newark, DE 19711 Presented by the Wilmington Trail Club paddlers group and set up to introduce interested new paddlers to the sport of kayaking. We will present an overview of our club and the training program that is offered each spring. This will be followed with a short presentation at an indoor pool of various types of kayaks and paddling gear. Snacks will be provided. 2011 Kayak Training Schedule Required Safety Session Tuesday, May 3, 7:00-9:00 PM Cab Calloway School of the Arts, 100 N. DuPont Rd, Wilmington, DE Introduction – basic paddle sport training including equipment, gear and the training process. Complete two skill tests- 1.Swimming proficiency test – one length of the pool using any stroke. 2.Wet exit – You will be taught how to easily and safely exit a kayak should it turn upside down. Then you will demonstrate what you’ve learned. 2011 Kayak Training Schedule Recreational Training The recreational/touring kayak training is a progression that takes the kayaker from paddling on a pond or lake to paddling on moving water. All courses must be taken in order; however, you may choose to discontinue training at any point. Quick Start Your Kayak May 14, 2011 Lums Pond State Park Essentials of River Kayaking May 21, 2011 Brandywine River Whitewater Training The whitewater training program is a progression that takes the kayaker from paddling on still water, to moving water, to whitewater. All courses must be taken in order; however, you may choose to discontinue training at any point. All WW Training is completed at the Lehigh River Whitewater Essentials June 4-5, 2011 River Kayaking June 25-26, 2011 Whitewater Kayaking July 9-10, 2011 Inside 1Inside 2Inside 3 WTC Paddling Welcome to the paddling portion of the Wilmington Trail Club. We are a fun group of over 75 friendly paddlers from Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. We hope you’ll come and join us on the water!! If you already paddle... a canoe or kayak please join us on a paddling trip. If you want to learn how to kayak... we offer both whitewater and recreational kayak training in the spring.
