Chapter 4 – Lesson 1 Temple: Holy place in Jerusalem where Jewish people gathered to worship God Scribes: Scholars of the law, chief priests Great Commandment: “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22: 37-39)

Chapter 4 – Lesson 1 Jesus teaches us the Great Commandment. Jesus and his family traveled to the temple, the holy place in Jerusalem where Jewish people gather to worship. All who heard Jesus were astonished by his teaching. The scribes, or chief priests, showed hostility towards Jesus, because Jesus’ knowledge threatened and scared them.

Chapter 4 – Lesson 1 Decalogue: The Ten Commandments Shema: A prayer from the Book of Deuteronomy, reminding the Jewish people to love God with all their heart, soul and strength.
