Fundamental Principles of Faculty Senate Conducts academic and faculty business, working closely with (1) the University Senate in regard to issues that have both academic and non- academic dimensions and (2) the administration Composed of faculty senators (voting members) and administrators, staff, students, and others (non-voting members) Maintains standing committees that deal with academic and faculty affairs

FS Standing Committees: Principles With one exception, FS standing committee members are drawn from the entire university community, as appropriate FS standing committees may establish subcommittees as necessary FS standing committees deal with academic policies, procedures, and approvals FS standing committees do not deal with nominating, selecting, or making decisions about particular individuals

FS Standing Committees 1.Committee on Undergraduate Education (the Undergraduate Curriculum Review Committee with an expanded charge, encompassing the character and quality of undergraduate education) 2.Committee on Graduate Education (Graduate Council with an expanded charge, encompassing the character and quality of graduate education) 3.Committee on Faculty Rights and Responsibilities (a new committee charged with monitoring the rights & responsibilities of faculty & teaching staff, the Faculty Handbook, relations between FS and PSA, etc.; membership restricted to faculty and full-time teaching staff)

Committee on Academic Outreach (a new committee charged with overseeing and coordinating academic relations with other universities and institutions, from high schools to medical schools, in this country and abroad) 5. Committee on Research, Scholarship, and Creative Academic Activity (the current Committee on Research with an expanded charge, to include facilitating the pursuit of excellence by faculty in publications, grants, fellowships, conference presentations, and other forms of creative activity)

Committee on Teaching, Learning and Technology, including Distance Learning (the current Teaching, Learning and Technology Committee with an expanded charge for facilitating and improving the processes of teaching and learning in all disciplines and with all modes of delivery) 7. Committee on Library and Academic Resources (the current Library Committee with an expanded charge, to include the collection, facilitation, and management of resources and information relating to academics)

Committee on Academic Budget Priorities (the current committee, expanded and rejuvenated, in order to enable faculty and administration to share in the process of setting priorities for academic budgeting) 9. Committee on Academic Assessment (a new committee charged with overseeing, facilitating, and improving policies and procedures for assessing academic courses and programs)
