2.2.1 Units of Measure An important part of measurement is choosing an appropriate unit of measurement. What measurement can best describe each of these situations? (Feet? Inches? Liters?) 1.The distance you travel from home to get to school. 2.The surface of the football field. 3.The width of a strand of hair. 4.The length of your nose. 5.The amount of room in your locker.

Try these… 7 in. 12 in. 5 in. 8 in. Large area = (7)(12) = 84 Small area = ½(5)(7) = 17.5 Subtract them = 66.5 Label…. 66.5 sq. in. 9 ft. 14 ft. 16.6 ft. 7.5 ft. Large area = (9)(14) = 126 Small area = ½(9)(11) = 49.5 Subtract them = 76.5 Label…. 76.5 sq. ft. 11 ft.
