NB Core Propositions Teachers are committed to students and their learning. Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to students. Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning. Teachers think systematically about their practice and learn from experience. Teachers are members of learning communities.

Eligibility Criteria Possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited university Complete three years of successful teaching / counseling / service as a media specialist Hold a valid teaching license Pay $2,500 + $65 processing fee

Loan Details Annual Percentage Rate 3% The cost of your credit as a yearly rate. Amount Financed $2,500.00 The amount of credit provided on your behalf. Finance Charge $117.20 The dollar amount the credit will cost you. Total Payments $2,617.20 The amount you will have paid after making all payments as scheduled. Payment Number 36 Payment Amount $72.70 Payments Due 1 st day of each month beginning thirteen months after funds are disbursed

In Order for NC to Loan You the Money … Complete three years of teaching in the NC Public School system Hold a clear, continuing NC teaching license Teach full-time in NC the year following initial candidacy All first-year candidates need to complete the eligibility verification forms, even if funded by the state loan. The Assessment Center = 40% Six Content-Specific Exercises – 30 minutes for each exercise – Standardized testing environment – Practice questions are available online, via study groups and during candidate institute

Support From the State Includes … Professional leave: Up to three days paid (for state funded candidates) Full renewal credits: Completion of all the components (if you pass or not – CEUs are applied to transcript in the year you get your scores) Salary Differential: 12% of your base pay

If You Change Your Mind Once You Get Started … The Withdrawal Process: – Withdrawal by candidates from the certification process is through MyProfile at www.nbpts.org – Pay the $500 fee for withdrawing before the portfolio or assessment center – Repay the $2,500 fee for non-completion or withdrawing after the deadline

Not Quite Ready? Try Take One! – Cost = $395 – Complete one pre-selected video portfolio entry of the NB process – Candidates participating in Take One! in 2013- 2014 will not be able to transfer their Take One! score to full National Board Candidacy. – Contact nboffice@cms.k12.nc.us for more information

Changes for 2014-2015 New Certification Process will be phased in over three years beginning 2014-2015 Candidates beginning the process in 2014- 2015 will not complete the process and receive Certification until 2017. Process will have 4 components.

New Certification Process Component 1: Assessment Center Component 2: Analysis of Student Work and Using Data to Set Student Goals Component 3: Classroom Pedagogy and Video Analysis Component 4: The Teacher as a Reflective Practitioner

Timeline 2014-2015: Components 1 & 2 2015-2016: Component 3 2016-2017: Component 4 November or December 2017: Receive notice of whether or not certification is achieved

Cost Each component is expected to cost between $450 and $500 Pay as you go NC Loan program will continue
