The interview stages (1)Introduction and entry: The interviewer gets in the door, shows authorization, and reassures and secures cooperation from the respondent. The interviewer can explain why the specific respondent is interviewed and not a substitute (2)The main part of the interview consists of asking questions and recording answers (exact wording on the questionnaire no added or omitted no rephrasing, in order, no returning to or skipping questions, goes to a comfortable pace and gives non directive feedback to maintain interest)

The interviewer accurately in record answers: Closed-ended questions: Just mark the correct box. Open-ended questions: the interviewer's job is more difficult. He or she listens carefully, must have legible writing and must record what is said verbatim without correcting grammar or slang and never summarizes or paraphrases. This causes a loss of information or distorts answers. For example "I'm really concerned about my daughter's heart problem. She's only 10 years old and already she has trouble climbing stairs. I don't know what she'll do when she gets older. Heart surgery is too risky for her and it costs so much. She'll have to learn to live with it." If the interviewer writes, "concerned about daughter's health, "much is lost.” The interviewer knows how and when to use probes. A probe is a neutral request to clarify an ambiguous answer, to complete an incomplete answer, or to obtain a relevant response.

Types of probes A three-to five-second pause is often effective Non verbal communication (e.g., tilt of head, raised eye brows or eye contact) also works well. The interviewer can repeat the question or repeat the reply and then pause She or he can ask a neutral question, such is, "Any other reasons?""Can you tell me more about that?""How do you mean?""Could you explain more for me?“ The last stage is the exit, when the interviewer thanks the respondent and leaves.

Questionnaire details: The interviewer record Date, time, and place of the interview (thumbnail sketch of the respondent and interview situation) The respondents attitude (e.g., serious, angry, or laughing) Any unusual circumstances (e.g., "Telephone rang at question 27 and respondent talked for four minutes before the interview started again") Anything disruptive that happened during the interview (e.g., "Teenage son entered room sat at opposite end, turned on television with the volume loud, and watched a music video") The personal feelings and anything that was suspected (e.g., "Respondent became nervous and fidgeted when questioned about his marriage")
