2 Skills The course aims to enable pupils to develop their skills in: listening, talking, reading and writing. understanding, analysing and evaluating. creating and producing a range of texts. applying language skills.

3 Course Assessment Creation & Production Unit Analysis & Evaluation Unit Literacy assessment

4 National 4 Creation and Production Unit Pupils will develop talking and writing skills in familiar contexts. Pupils will develop the skills needed to create and produce straightforward language in both written and oral form.

5 National 4 Creation & Production Unit During delivery of the unit pupils will: (i) create and produce straightforward written texts (ii) take part in straightforward spoken interactions

6 National 4 Analysis and Evaluation Unit Pupils will develop listening and reading skills in familiar contexts.

7 National 4 Analysis & Evaluation Pupils will develop the skills needed to understand, analyse and evaluate straightforward language, through the study of a range of texts in language, literature and media contexts.

8 National 4 Analysis & Evaluation During delivery of the unit pupils will: (i) understand, analyse and evaluate straightforward written texts (ii) understand, analyse and evaluate straightforward spoken language

9 National 4 Literacy If pupils pass all of the National 4 English units and non-fiction texts are produced/assessed then pupils will be achieve a National 4 Literacy Award.

10 National 4 Added Value In order to achieve a National 4 English qualification pupils will have to pass the Added Value Unit.

11 National 4 Added Value Unit Pupils will apply language skills to investigate a chosen topic by: (i) reading straightforward texts (ii) selecting relevant information from the texts (iii) evaluating the texts, using some appropriate critical terminology (iv) presenting their findings (v) responding to questions

12 National 4 Added Value Evidence needs to be provided by: selecting relevant information from at least two straightforward texts using straightforward language in a written or oral presentation responding appropriately to questions
