Repetition: The same words or phrases are repeated for effect Simile: comparison with the words “like” or “as” Metaphor: a comparison between two things that don’t have anything in common. Metonymy: When the name of one object replaces another object that is closely associated with it

Repetition: I came, I saw, I conquered. Simile: As sweet as cotton candy. She is strong like a lion. Metaphor: Ms. Jordan is the black sheep of the family. Metonymy: The White House for the President of the USA.

Allusion A phrase or segment that refers back to another famous piece of writing, document, or person. Example: This place is paradise! allusion to the Garden of Eden This place is like Sodom and Gomorrah!
