Safeguarding Animal Health Terminal Learning Objectives Understand the options, processes, and procedures involved in distributing supplies and equipment to field response sites. 2 Training is designed to augment your organization's incident command system and logistics response training; not replace established processes or procedures

Safeguarding Animal Health Distributing Two options:  Responder pickup  Ground support unit delivery Illinois NVS Exercise June 2009 Colorado NVS Exercise September 2012 5

Safeguarding Animal Health Distributing Step 1: Coordinate Pickup or Delivery If using responder pickup, the receiving and distribution manager (RCDM) will coordinate with the operations section for responders to pickup supplies and equipment at the warehouse. If using ground support delivery, the RCDM informs the ground support unit dispatcher that deliveries are ready for pickup.  Ground support unit coordinates delivery vehicles and drivers.  Local law enforcement agencies coordinate for security, if necessary. 6

Safeguarding Animal Health Distribution Step 2: Confirm Pickup of Correct Order The receiving and distribution manager (RCDM) pulls the packing slip from the Outgoing Orders folder. The driver and RCDM  confirm the destination and  verify that the number of pieces of freight (e.g., pallets, boxes) agrees with the packing slip. 7

Safeguarding Animal Health Distributing Step 3: Load Containers If the order contains temperature-sensitive items, the warehouse team picks and quality controls those items.  Enters vaccine/antiviral product details (lot/serial number, expiration date, etc.) on the pick sheet.  Uses cold packs and insulated containers, Vaxicool containers, or other methods to control temperatures.  Ensure Vaxicool containers have fully charged batteries.  Refresh cold packs to maintain temperature during staging and before loading picked items for distribution.  Includes a means (e.g., thermometer) for field responders to confirm the temperature of items when they arrive.  Prevents the constant exposure of vaccine to light and moisture. Warehouse team loads all containers. Illinois NVS Exercise June 2009 8 Never take a Vaxicool or Fridgefreeze refrigeration units onto an infected, contact, or suspect premises.

Safeguarding Animal Health Distributing Step 4: Sign Distribution Log Receiving and distribution manager (RCDM) annotates the order number, destination, pickup date, time, and number of containers loaded in the distribution log. Driver prints name and signs the log to confirm receipt. RCDM initials the distribution log to confirm driver received the order and provides packing slip to the driver. RCDM provides the ordering manager the signed pick sheet. Ordering manager marks the order as shipped in the inventory management system. 2Response Site ACAT1/208001John DoeKRMN/A Distribution Log 9
