3 The shabono The shabono is the housing the Yanomami tribe live in.
The shabono can house anywhere from 50 to 400 people They are constructed mainly of thatched palm leaves and wood Each family has their own section within inside the shabono The only thing that separates these families is large wooden beams The central area is used for games, rituals and activities

4 Family Each family has its own storage space where they cook and eat.
At night there is a spot for a fire. The fire is kept going all night and day. The family sleep in hammocks. The Yanomami Indians are known as hunters, fishers and horticulturists Woman garden ensuring their crops are maintained

5 Food The yanomami tribe is extremely low in salt.
This can be attributed to their primitive lifestyle. Men hunt and fish Women maintain the garden The women grow Banana’s Sugar cane Mango’s Sweet potatoes Papya No man ever eats the meat he has hunted, he shares if with family and friends. He is thanked with meat from other hunters

6 Woman The woman are responsible for bearing the children.
The woman contribute greatly to the lively hood of the family and community. Gardening contributes about 80% of all food in the community.

The modern world has effected the Yanomami tribe greatly. The Yanomami tribe live deep within the Amazon rainforest. They have come in contact with illegal miners throughout the region. These miners have brought deadly diseases that are starting to destroy these tribes. These diseases include malaria and polluted water which directly leads illness and sometimes death. They are also affected by tree loggers, these groups destroy the environment in which this tribe lives.

9 A day in the life You are a Yanomami Indian living deep in the Amazon rainforest. You have a friend who lives in another tribe. You are to write to him/her about what you do on a daily basis. Example-A man from the Yanomami tribe, you wake up early in the morning after a good sleep in your hammock. You wake to children playing in the centre of the shabono. After this you eat some breakfast, this meal consist of some grains and fruit. After this you relax before you and the other men in the shabono go hunting. As we set off for hunting we found some foot prints of a large animal….
