Erikson’s Life (1902-1944) Erik as Erikson was a developmental psychologist. In the late 1920's he met Anna Freud and began to study child psychoanalyses from her at the Vienna Psychoanalytic Institute. With the rise of Nazism in the 1930s, Erikson immigrated to the United States in 1933. He possessed a special interest in the influence of society and culture on child development. He is well-known for his phrase, “identity crisis.”

Erikson’s Developmental Theory In each stage the person confronts, and hopefully masters, a new challenge. Each stage builds on the successful completion of the earlier stages. Until the “crisis” of each stage is successfully completed, it should be expected that it will reappear as a future problem. http://en.wikipedia.org

According to Erikson's stages, the onset of the identity crisis is in the teenage years, and only individuals who succeed in resolving the crisis will be ready to face future challenges in life.
