 No busy work. We only assign relevant, important work.  We demand academic honesty.  We encourage, cultivate, and demand academic excellence.  The student MUST take ownership of their learning.  We retain the right to refuse sub-standard work  We are very cognizant of the students’ busy schedules and other commitments and have worked very hard to reduce the workload to that which is most necessary and relevant. Some teaching philosophies

 1st Offense:  The student’s parents will be contacted  Teachers will offer alternative assignment with a grade not to exceed a 70  The student’s conduct grade will be lowered  The incident will be reported through Skyward  ISS will be assigned  2nd Offense:  The student’s parents will be contacted  Teachers will offer alternative assignment with a grade not to exceed a 50  Additional ISS will be assigned  The conduct grade will reflect the infraction (U)  The student may be suspended from school sanctioned activities  The incident will be reported through Skyward High School Level: Level of Consequence

 Think of AP courses as Varsity level academics.  A “JV” mentality will not lead to success  You need to get serious, work hard, ask questions, get help, and approach this class with effort and enthusiasm This is VARSITY!

 It is wise to have A-Day and B-day backpacks/materials.  You should regularly utilize a physical planner. While digital resources can be convenient, we have seen students have much more success with an actual planner.  We recommend a dedicated two-hour window each night for all of your homework (not just AP) that is cell phone free.  Students that learn to manage their time and workload will be the most successful.  The biggest danger is procrastination. Your coursework can spiral out of control if you do not stay up to date. Study Habits

 It would be wise each Sunday to try to make plans for the week. Consider your after school activities when organizing your workload.  Regularly consult the online calendars and ask questions if you are unsure.  PREPARE for quizzes and tests.  You must complete all coursework, it’s ALL important. Study Habits

 All state universities in Texas MUST accept scores of 3 or higher for college credit  Most colleges out of state will accept 3’s as well  Some institutions choose to award credit for only 4’s and 5’s, some only 5’s or and some no credit regardless of score.  Regardless of college approval, we stand behind the importance, relevance, and value of this course in your maturation as a student and person. AP Test Credit

 Completion of a full year of Human Geography will count as your World Geography credit  If you transfer to PAP or On-level World Geography at semester, you will have to take the 1 st semester of World Geography over the summer or next year.  The window for transfer is at 3 weeks, 6 weeks, and the semester.  The grade your student has at the time of transfer will transfer with them. World Geography credit

 To support the district’s vision for graduates, we want to support a student being self-regulated and an effective communicator.  We prefer that students advocate for themselves first as most problems, issues or questions can be resolved this way.  Parents may also contact us at any time with concerns or questions  Remember to be professional, identify yourself and be diplomatic. Communication

 Project Grades, Map Test Grades  Test Corrections on Multiple Choice Tests  One Quiz drop per grading period (No late work)  Extra credit opportunities aligned to mastery of content  Mrs. Kelley and Mr. Stanley are always here for tutorials and for help! Safety Net

 There are many excellent AP test review books for Human Geography  The course hasn’t been changed in 11 years so even older editions of the review books are still good. You don’t need to buy the latest/greatest edition at full price.  Half Price Books or buying a used copy on Amazon are good possibilities AP Review Books
