Climaxed by the final victory of the best team #2 Organize Participation Emphasize participation rather then competition #3 Stimulate & Maintain Interest Interest should build from first round of play to the final contest. #4 Selection of the best team/player To derive a winner as quickly as possible.

How To make a Large Group Work Effectively 5 procedures that could make a group work well as a team to get the job done: A) Select people that have a genuine interest in getting the task done and reaching the goals. B) Give committee members a feeling of ownership – they must feel that they have input in the outcome. C) Continuity – people need to stay involved and focus on the task and if there is transition of people that it is handled easily. ( “ The show still goes on.”)

How To Make a Large Group Work Effectively Continued D) A large group must delegate responsibility to smaller groups. ( sub committees must then take the ownership) E) Someone to answer to – the bottom line people/person

Selection Criteria Several Forms of tournaments exist. How does one select the appropriate tournament for a given circumstance? Take the following criteria into thought when organizing a tournament or an event: Allotted Time the amount of time available for the tournament can play a role on the type of tournament you select. For example, a single elimination tournament vs. round robin tournament

Type of activity Golf, swimming, track & field, racquet sports, etc. Number of teams/entries If possible, try to have even numbers of teams or multiples of 4 to make sure it runs smoothly. Facilities Availability Meet standards/big enough Enough room for spectators

Running a Tournament Smoothly These are some aspects you must figure out to make sure your event runs as smoothly as possible Schedule Different locations Round robin? Single elimination? Look at traveling teams? Home crowds? Evenings?

Equipment Mesh? Backboards? Balls? Pucks? Sticks? Officials Availability How many? Minimum qualifications? Being able to speak certain languages (bilingual) Publicity Advertising ( businesses, radio, t.v., sponsorship)

Rules/Regulations prepared for incidents that could happen proper type of equipment under either national or provincial standards Basic Information Places to stay Maps Modifications to rules Places to eat Numbers (phone/fax) Coupons, souveniers

Results/Standings Big enough for more then 1 person to see will show game time and locations Placed in common area so it is easy for people to find Supervision There should be at least one person in charge at the event at all times. Gate Different color tickets or stamps different prices (student, adult, senior, family)

Set up/ clean up Make sure to have set up and clean up staff for the event Media Send scores to main paper on time to get into the paper/radio Have their own station – color commentary, post game interviews, etc. Conflict complaints on facilities Weather could be bad Scheduling teams playing the same teams from their area
