S,L,G Category Sort In your group read the cards provided and decide if the card describes a solid, liquid, or a gas; and then sort.
3
Solid Molecules have been packed together tightly Definite shape Definite volume Particles have very little energy Cannot be compressed easily Becomes a liquid when heat energy is added Does not flow easily
4
Liquid Definite volume Cannot be compressed easily Molecules in a liquid are more spread out than a solid, but less spread out than a gas Shape changes depending on the container Does not hold a shape Flows easily Becomes a gas when heat energy is added Becomes a solid when heat energy is taken away
5
Gas Molecules in a gas spread to fill the entire space they are in Molecules have the most amount of energy Does not hold a shape Easily compressible Becomes a liquid when heat energy is taken away

Kinetic Theory of Matter All matter (solid, liquid, and gas) is made up of tiny particles called atoms, or atoms that are joined to form molecules. All particles are in constant and random motion. The particles are colliding with each other and the walls of their container.
