21 First step of creating the Longitudinal Data System is rewriting the Department’s current data collection efforts (known as IBEDS) Why rewrite IBEDS? –Functionally obsolete –Too much money spent on out-of- house technical support –Multiple data sources for same data Longitudinal Data System

24 Page 1-22 Solutions to three problems facing rural schools: 1.Teaching positions: ISTARS provides solutions for hard-to-fill positions and teachers who can work in multiple subject areas 2.Teaching support: Working with colleges/universities to provide better access to professional development 3.Technology: Improving public-private partnerships in rural communities to access latest technology. Results will be used to: –Create boilerplate crisis response plan –Standardize statewide safety measures for schools –Reduce costs of security technology –Apply for federal grants for safety and security in education Safe Schools Study
