“F ITLY F RAMED ” Session #4 Motivational Gifts Test This series was written by the General Home Missions Director, Rev. Carlton L. Coon, Sr.

B IBLE P ERSPECTIVE “Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; {20} And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; {21} In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: {22} In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:19 ‑ 22

R EVIEW OF F IRST T HREE L ESSONS  Fitly Framed’s goal: to help you be fruitful and fulfilled in a meaningful place of service.  Fitly Framed’s process of discovery, consultation, and service  Why we are to serve: to glorify God and edify others.  How we are to serve: according to our passion, motivational gifts, and temperament  We have talked about finding your passion and finding a place for it to be utilized.

W HAT IS A M OTIVATIONAL G IFT ? Motivational gifts answer the “what” question (what do I do when I serve?). Remember the “passion” question helps us discover where we are to serve; Our motivational gifts give insight as to what we should do in the area of our passion.

G IFTS G OD H AS G IVEN THE C HURCH 1. The gifts of the spirit (manifestation gifts) in 1 Corinthians 12:7-10. 2. Then there are the equipping gifts recorded in Ephesians 4:11. The purpose of these gifts is clear in Ephesians 4:12-13.

G IFTS G OD H AS G IVEN THE C HURCH 3. The third type of gift is listed in Romans 12:6-8. To designate these gifts we will call them - motivational gifts. Charsima is the Greek word used here. These are the gifts that every person possesses. God has put them into you— made them part of us. When they are used correctly, they are to benefit others and for God’s glory. These are the gifts that shape our personalities.

R OMANS 12:4-8 “For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: 5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; 7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; 8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.”

W HO IS G IFTED ? Everyone is Gifted. “As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” (I Peter 4:10) These seven motivating gifts make us act as we do. Each one of us receives one or more gifts. So what do we do with them?

W HAT DO WE DO WITH THESE GIFTS ? Use them to benefit others. Outflow is essential for life. We are not to neglect our gift (I Tim. 4:14). One translation refers to the “in thee gift...” Our gift colors all that we see. Each gift is of equal value. What we are is God’s gift to us. What we make of our lives is our gift to God.

R EASON FOR E ACH G IFT (R OMANS 12:4-5) 1. The body represents the Church. 2. We don’t have to do it all by ourselves. We do our part and someone else does theirs. 3. There is a mutual responsibility in the body of Christ.

M OTIVATIONAL G IFTS IN THE B ODY Prophet – Eyes of the body. They look to the future. Server-- Hands of the body. Teacher-- Mind of the body. Exhorter-- Mouth of the body. Giver– Arms of the body. Administrator– Shoulders of the body. Mercy Person-- Heart of the body.

W E ARE ALL R ESPONSIBLE ! It is important to realize that we all minister in all areas of the work of God. One cannot pass the buck of responsibility simply because he or she is not gifted in a particular area. We are all to be givers, all to be compassionate, all to shoulder responsibility, etc. However, there are particular areas that we are gifted to serving in. Take the “Motivational Gifts Profile” now.

I N H UDDLE G ROUPS, D ISCUSS : 1. What was your primary gift (according to the evaluation)? Do you see this gift being exercised in your life at present? 2. What was your secondary gift? In what area did you score the worst? 3. What are some places that you feel you could serve using this motivational gift?
