The Texas state flower is the Bluebonnet. Bluebonnets line the Texas highways all over the state. Bluebonnets became the state flower in 1971.

Pecan Tree This tree is in downtown Abilene, Texas. The pecan tree is the state tree of Texas. It bears the pecan nut that is edible for human consumption. The nut can be eaten in a cooked recipe or off the tree. The pecan tree can live up to 300 years.

Mockingbird The Mockingbird is the state bird of Texas. These bird are best know for their mimicking other birds sounds and songs.

Austin, Texas This is a picture of downtown Austin. Austin was settled in the 1830s on the banks of the Colorado River. By 1839, the city became known as Waterloo and was chosen to become the capital of the Republic of Texas. Soon after the name was changed to Austin, in honor of Stephen F. Austin. Texas received its state hood December 28, 1945.
